A wedding is a celebration of love and commitment.

This is a combination of 7 letters that define the promise to live with each other till the last breath.



(1)The Wedding Date Is Determined in the Stars

Before the wedding, an auspicious time ( muhurta) is fixed for the event.

Using the couple's dates of birth,


astrologists calculate the position of planets and stars to reflect the celestial union of the couple.


(2)Sangeet
Before the actual wedding, there's a pre-party called the sangeet where family comes together to sing, dance,




and revel in the joy of the upcoming union



(3)Haldi and Mehendi Ceremony
the Haldi ceremony where Haldi is used to apply On bride and  Groom’s body.
The mehndi ceremony where henna is used to apply intricate designs to the bride's hands and feet.
The mehndi ceremony usually takes place one day before the marriage will be held,

                             as the application can take hours.
This event is traditionally only attended by the bride's close female friends and family members.




(4)The Bride Wears a Red traditional dress
In Indian culture, red symbolizes the rising sun, prosperity, and fertility.



(5)The Groom's Arrival Is a Celebration in Itself known as vara yatra (Barat)
The arrival of the groom and his party to the ceremony site called the vara yatra, is celebrated with great joy.
They are greeted by the bride's parents, family, and friends amidst live music and dancing.
The party is welcomed with a special rice toss, 
known as akshat, and the groom is presented with a plate carrying a lit lamp ( arati),
and a garland. Sometimes a tilak, or dot on the forehead


(6)The Couple Weds Under a Mandap
The wedding mandap is a temporary structure constructed for the purpose of the marriage ceremony.







(7)A Fire Burns in the Center of the Mandap
In the center of the mandap, a fire is kindled.  fire is kept as a witness and offerings are made.
This offering is known as a homam.


(8) Indian Wedding Rituals Begin With a Prayer to Ganesha


(9)The Father of the Bride Gives Her Away (kanyadaan)
The bride will be led to the ceremony by either her brothers or uncles.
The moment the father gives the bride away is known as the kanyadaan.
In the Hindu tradition, no man can claim a woman until she is offered. During the ceremony,
the father of the bride places his daughter's hands into the groom's hands as a gesture of giving her away.




(10)Sindoor Is Applied to the Bride's Hair, Signifying She Is Married
Sindoor, a red-orange powder,
 is applied to the part of a woman's hair, 
symbolizing her new status as a married woman.


(11)The  Bidai is the most emotional part of this entire                                                            ceremony.



 The bidai is the time for Bride to leave her parents and family, and start a new journey with her husband and his family.
